Job description

The Security Guard is a key member of the shipboard Security team, supporting the safety and security of guests, crew and the vessel. The role conducts security patrols and monitoring, controls access to the ship, observes passenger and crew activities, and responds to security incidents or concerns in accordance with established procedures. Working closely with the wider shipboard team, the Security Guard maintains a professional and visible security presence while contributing to a safe, secure and welcoming environment onboard.

Maintain a professional and visible security presence throughout the vessel, helping to provide a safe and secure environment for guests, crew and visitors. Conduct routine security patrols and monitoring activities , identifying and promptly reporting security concerns, suspicious activity, hazards or breaches of established procedures. Perform access control duties at designated shipboard locations, verifying the authorization of guests, crew, visitors and contractors entering or leaving the vessel.

Support the safe and secure embarkation and disembarkation of guests, crew and visitors in accordance with established security procedures. Monitor designated areas through CCTV and other shipboard security systems as assigned. Respond promptly and professionally to security incidents, alarms and requests for assistance , following established procedures and the direction of Security Officers.

Assist with security investigations , including gathering relevant information, maintaining accurate records and reporting observations through the appropriate chain of command. Conduct assigned security searches and screening activities in accordance with Company procedures and applicable security requirements. Support the protection of restricted areas, controlled spaces and shipboard assets through effective monitoring and access control.

Maintain accurate security logs, incident reports and other required documentation , ensuring information is recorded clearly and promptly. Provide a professional, calm and respectful response when dealing with guests and crew , including during challenging or sensitive situations. Support the shipboard response to emergencies and security-related incidents and carry out assigned duties within the vessel's emergency organization.

Participate fully in security drills, emergency exercises, training and briefings to maintain the required level of operational readiness. Follow all Company security, safety and confidentiality procedures , escalating concerns to the appropriate Security Officer when required. Work collaboratively with other shipboard departments to support a safe, secure and welcoming onboard environment .

Minimum 12 months’ professional experience in security screening, access control or a similar operational security role . Practical experience operating X-ray screening equipment, walk-through metal detectors and handheld metal detection equipment . Experience conducting security screening and physical search procedures in accordance with established protocols and procedures.

Experience with CCTV monitoring and surveillance systems is highly desirable. Familiarity with trace detection equipment and techniques is advantageous. Previous experience within airport or airline security, maritime ports or cruise terminals, transportation security, government facilities, diplomatic facilities or other high-volume security environments is highly desirable.

Ability to effectively manage high volumes of guests, crew or visitors while maintaining security standards and a professional approach. Strong observation and situational awareness skills , with the ability to identify unusual activity, potential security concerns or breaches of procedure. Ability to remain calm, professional and composed in challenging situations , including incidents involving conflict or non-compliance.

Good written and verbal English communication skills , with the ability to communicate clear instructions and accurately document security incidents and observations. Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills , with the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with guests, crew and visitors from diverse cultural backgrounds. Ability to follow security procedures, instructions and established reporting protocols consistently and accurately.

Demonstrates sound judgement, integrity, confidentiality and professionalism when handling security-related information and incidents. Ability to work effectively as part of a multicultural shipboard Security team and collaborate with other departments when required. Comfortable working in a high-volume, guest-facing environment where effective security must be balanced with a positive and professional guest experience
