ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN LEVEL 1
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Engineering Technician Level 1
Reports To: Engineering Analyst
Location: Athens, Texas (Occasional Travel Required)
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Non- Exempt
Summary/Objective:
The Engineering Technician Level 1 is responsible for supporting the engineering team through the analysis and processing of technical data collected by REI Utility Services’ field staff, clients, and third-party contractors (e.g., TxDOT). This entry-level role utilizes established engineering procedures and software tools to produce accurate project outputs, support quality assurance, and contribute to process improvements. This position is ideal for a candidate looking to grow within the electric utility engineering field.
Essential Functions:
- Review and analyze engineering data for completeness and accuracy.
- Process data according to project requirements using established procedures and software tools.
- Request additional data or clarification from field staff or external sources when necessary.
- Perform quality control checks to ensure accuracy and consistency of output.
- Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders regarding project data and findings.
- Escalate unexpected or inconsistent results to leadership for review.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying inefficiencies and suggesting solutions.
- Support engineering team in preparation of reports, maps, and project deliverables.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in electric utility design or related technical role.
- Familiarity with engineering software platforms such as PLS-CADD, Neara, ESRI, Trimble, and GIS systems.
- Basic knowledge of RUS design standards and utility materials.
- Understanding of key industry standards, including NESC, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to travel occasionally for project support and training.
Compensation:
This is a full-time, hourly position depending on experience and qualifications. The Engineering Technician Level 1 is eligible for REI’s comprehensive benefits package.
