We are continuing to look for experienced and motivated talents across the world to come join our Tokyo team! We are open to considering anyone interested in pursuing a career at Applied Intuition Tokyo office.

About the role

Solution Engineers represent Applied's technology to Japan's OEMs and suppliers. They are the engineers at Applied who work most closely with customers.

Our work with customers is not about installing a product. It is about helping them shift to software-driven, iterative vehicle development and speed up their development cycles. To do this, you will have in-depth discussions about architecture and development process with customers' SDV and AD/ADAS teams, form your own view of how Vehicle OS should be used, propose it, and take responsibility for delivering it.

What this role requires is an understanding of the SDV and AD/ADAS system as a whole. You should be able to discuss a wide range of topics in your own words, including perception, planning, and control, middleware, E/E architecture, functional safety, and development process. This is what earns customers' trust.

At Applied Intuition, you will:

  • Work with the engineering teams at Japan's major OEMs and suppliers on SDV and AD/ADAS architecture and development process, and lead the technical side of their move to software-driven development

  • Understand where each customer is today and where they want to go, and decide how Applied's platform should be used to get there

  • Organize customer requirements, discuss them with product and engineering teams at HQ, and make the technical decisions on the Japan side

  • Do hands-on work when needed, such as setting up software and tools for demos and PoCs, building validation environments, and supporting vehicle build-ups

  • Own Vehicle OS projects end to end, covering the technical, delivery, and customer-facing sides, including milestones, issues, and risks

  • Bring technical issues you learn about in the field back into the product roadmap

  • Travel to customer sites in Japan and abroad as needed

We're looking for someone who has:

  • System-level understanding and practical experience in at least one of the following: SDV, AD/ADAS, vehicle software, or E/E architecture

  • Experience discussing difficult technical topics with customer or partner engineers as a peer and reaching agreement

  • Experience working at, or together with, automotive OEMs or suppliers

  • A track record of making technical decisions yourself and bringing others along to move a project forward

  • A commitment to learning new technical areas and expanding your expertise over time

  • Japanese: native level, able to handle technical negotiations and documentation with customers

  • English: business level, able to discuss technical topics with HQ engineers and communicate by email and chat on a daily basis

Nice to have:

  • Specialist knowledge in one of the following: AD/ADAS perception, planning, and control; simulation; vehicle middleware such as AUTOSAR; or cloud integration (OTA)

  • Practical experience with functional safety (ISO 26262) or Automotive SPICE

  • Embedded or general software development experience (Python, C++, or similar)

  • Experience integrating and bringing up systems on vehicles or test benches

Don’t meet every single requirement? If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
