This role

Principal Product Manager, Mobile

Location: San Francisco, United States | Mexico City, Mexico Reports to: SVP of Product Management

About PayJoy

PayJoy is a mission-first fintech company dedicated to bringing financial access to the next billion people in emerging markets. Our patented technology turns a smartphone into collateral, giving unbanked consumers an on-ramp to credit. We've served over 20 million customers across 11 markets and remain strongly profitable — and we're just getting started.

We're now at an inflection point: evolving PayJoy from a transactional loan app into a financial hub spanning credit, e-commerce, benefits, and beyond. This role is central to driving that transformation.

The Role

As Principal Product Manager, Mobile, you will own the vision, architecture, and execution of transforming PayJoy's apps into a destination our customers want to return to.

This is a senior Individual Contributor role reporting to the SVP of Product Management. You'll work directly with Engineering leadership and the executive team to shape PayJoy's next chapter.

What You'll Do

Platform vision & strategy

  • Define and drive the multi-year product strategy for PayJoy's mobile app platform.

  • PayJoy operates a portfolio of multiple consumer and in-store apps. You'll help define how these apps fit together as one coherent ecosystem.

  • Determine which capabilities live in which app, how customers discover and move from one app to the next, and how we handle deep links and handoffs, consistent navigation, and a shared design system across surfaces.

  • Capitalize on active user traffic by designing personalized cross-sell capabilities across the ecosystem.

  • Identify opportunities to extend the platform beyond servicing — including e-commerce, rewards and benefits ecosystems, and engagement tools.

  • Develop the strategy for embedding financial education into the app, appropriate for a low-financial-literacy customer base.

Execution & delivery

  • Own end-to-end product delivery: from discovery and prioritization through development, launch, and post-launch iteration across all app surfaces.

  • Define platform-level standards for navigation, architecture, performance, and UX consistency across all apps.

  • Establish and run the mobile release process and cadence across the app portfolio — coordinating feature freezes, code cutoffs, regression windows, and coordinated cross-app releases where changes span multiple apps.

  • Own the end-to-end submission process for Google Play, including review timelines and rejections/appeals, metadata and content-rating requirements, and keeping releases compliant with store policies.

  • Drive phased and staged rollouts, feature-flagging and remote config, beta/internal testing tracks (Play internal/closed testing), forced- and recommended-update strategy, and rollback/hotfix procedures when something goes wrong in production.

  • Drive PayJoy's app store presence — owning store optimization (ASO), ratings and reviews management, and release strategy on Google Play.

Cross-functional leadership

  • Partner deeply with Engineering leadership to align on architecture decisions, build out native mobile best practices, and scale platform capacity.

  • Own key business KPIs such as cross-sell and reduced CX contacts per active user.

  • Ensure platform investments accelerate core revenue to the business.

  • Influence senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Design, Data, and Operations to align on platform priorities and trade-offs.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • 8+ years of product management experience, with at least 5 years in a senior or staff-level role.

  • Demonstrated experience building and scaling consumer mobile apps — ideally at a company that's gone through a platform inflection point.

  • Deep expertise in Android product development: navigation patterns, mobile architecture, performance, release management, and app store operations.

  • Strong background in fintech, consumer financial services, or a similarly regulated, data-intensive domain.

  • Proven ability to translate ambiguous strategic goals into clear roadmaps, sharp prioritization decisions, and measurable outcomes.

  • Demonstrated capability to define instrumentation events, execute phased rollouts, and measure metrics.

  • Exceptional cross-functional influencer across engineering, design, data, risk, and operations — without relying on formal authority.

  • Fluency in English, written and spoken.

Nice to have

  • Experience managing a multi-app or platform-level product portfolio — particularly secured/unsecured or credit-lifecycle product models.

  • Background in emerging markets, LATAM, or building products for underbanked consumer segments.

  • Hands-on experience with app store optimization, growth loops, or engagement and retention product mechanics.

  • SQL fluency or equivalent ability to self-serve product insights from data.

  • Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese.
